Hallo, ich bin Sofiya — Stimmbildnerin für Menschen, die sich selbst immer wieder gesagt haben: „Ich kann nicht singen.“

Singers and athletes have more in common than you think.
We train coordination. Endurance. Recovery.

When I first started singing, I struggled a lot with how I saw myself.

I didn’t feel like I was “enough” — not talented enough, not special enough, not the kind of person who was allowed to call herself a singer.
I believed singing was only for people who started young, went to music school, and had a shot at becoming famous.

And since that wasn’t me… I thought I had no right to want it.

I judged myself harshly. I hated being out of tune. I panicked when I didn’t even realize I was out of tune.
I was scared of what others might think.
I thought I was too late — and too far behind to ever catch up.

But little by little, something shifted.
I stopped chasing perfection and started looking for connection.
I realized that singing doesn’t have to lead to fame.
It can lead to self-trust. Joy. Freedom. Healing.

✨ You don’t have to be extraordinary to sing.
You don’t have to be early, or polished, or brave, either.
You just have to begin.

💬 Did any of this feel familiar to you?

❌ “Singing is only for performers.”
Let’s gently let that one go.

Most of my own singing doesn’t happen on a stage.
It happens in the kitchen while I’m cooking,
in the living room while I’m picking up things,
or quietly while I’m working on something else.

I also really enjoy singing with friends.
Once, we sang with my colleagues all the way from Cologne to Berlin in the car — just song after song, the whole drive.
That memory still makes me smile.

Yes, I do perform sometimes.
But honestly, the joy of singing lives in the small, everyday moments.
The playful ones. The calming ones. The real ones.

Singing isn’t just for stages or spotlights.
It’s for connection — to yourself, to your breath, to others.
You don’t need to be a performer to use your voice.
You just need to feel safe enough to let it out.

💬 Do you sing, even when no one’s watching?

You’re not bad at singing — you’ve just never been shown how to do it safely, freely, and in a way that works for your voice.

Singing is a skill. Like learning to draw, ride a bike, or speak a new language.

But here’s the problem:
Most people expect themselves to be “naturally good” without ever learning the basics.
And when it doesn’t sound the way they want, they assume they’re broken or not talented.

You’re not broken.
You’re not behind.
And you’re definitely not the only one who’s scared.

💬 When was the last time you sang without holding back?

When I hit burnout, I felt broken.
Defeated. Canceled.
I felt like I had pivoted in a very wrong direction somewhere along the way.

I had no energy, no motivation, no joy.
I didn’t want to do anything but lie down, cry, or dissociate.

At some point during my recovery, I realized I needed at least one reason to get out of my apartment and keep going.
I knew what I wanted all along — but I’d been too scared to admit it to myself. I wanted to sing.

So I started again — gently, quietly. I kept showing up and slowly, I started to feel like myself again.
I started to step out of survival mode and became more open to life.

I even decided to go to European Vocal Camp — despite still not being at 100%.
And the rest is history.

Singing didn’t fix everything.
But it gave me a way back to myself.

❌ “I can’t perform until I’m perfect.”
If you’ve ever thought this — you’re definitely not alone.

I’ve seen so many singers wait until they feel “ready,” until every note is polished, until the fear is gone.

But here’s the truth:

You don’t become a confident performer by hiding.

You become one by showing up — even when your voice isn’t 100%, even when your hands are shaking, even when you’re still learning.

Real growth doesn’t come from staying silent.
It comes from letting yourself be seen in the process.

Here are 3 ways to shift from self-judgement to self-kindness:

🌿 Get curious: Instead of thinking "I sound bad" ask : "What's happening to my voice right now?"
🌿 Separate skill from worth: Your voice is worthy even if you are still learning!
🌿 Speak to yourself like you would to a friend: You wouldn't tell a friend their voice is awful. Don't do it to yourself.

Your voice doesn't need to impress anyone.

💬What's something kind you can tell your voice today?

I used to be an engineer. I also used to be a product manager. Good salary, clear career paths, all the "right" boxes checked.

I was trying so hard to fit in, to do my best every day, and not let the people who counted on me down. But I worked myself into burnout - more than once. I was disconnected from myself, my values, and my passions.

I thought I needed to be someone else in order to succeed. But at some point, I realized I couldn't keep living and working like this.
And that the things that don't ignite a fire of passion and curiosity in me will burn me out again and again.

What saved me wasn't another promotion. It was my voice. It was reconnecting to music and to myself. It was the only thing I actually wanted to do after I got sick.

Singing brought me back to life and to myself, to my body, to my emotions, to wonderful communities and to who I actually was beneath the noise.

That's why I decided to become a vocal coach . Not only to make people "better singers" - but to also help them reconnect to themselves and find beauty in life again.
